Last chance to buy early bird tickets for remaining categories

Race Promoter Singapore GP Pte Ltd announced today that the sale of the remaining early bird tickets will be discontinued as of midnight, 31 July 2009. All tickets will then revert to regular prices from 1 August 2009.

Since the first of 13 categories of early bird tickets were sold out on 22 April, ticket sale has been progressing steadily. Only the Padang, Pit, Stamford, Turn 1 and Turn 3 Grandstands are still offering early bird pricing with discounts of between 11 to 20%.

“Although these grandstands had recently exhausted their allocation of early bird tickets we decided to keep these remaining areas open and have one collective cut off date on July 31. As these prices offer significant savings fans will enjoy a few more days to take advantage of these offers,” said Michael Roche, Executive Director of Singapore GP Pte Ltd.

Preparations or the 2009 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX is well underway with the construction at the Pit Entry and Pit Exit complete, and about 60% of the installation of lighting structures complete. Installation of concrete barriers and fencing has recently commenced since 13 July beginning from the Pit Straight.

    • Night-time Grand Prix offers 27 hours of non-stop entertainment
    • New Poster Highlights “Night of High-Octane Music and Action”

With over 200 performers strutting their stuff around the spectator areas of the Marina Bay Street Circuit, the 2009 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX will leave spectators breathless as they soak in a day-andnight multi-sensory experience.

Between 8pm and 10pm local time on Sunday 27th September, all attention is likely to be focused on the battle between the Brawn and Red Bull cars in the sport’s only night race. On current form, Singapore looks set to play host to a championship showdown.

Both before and after the race, and across the entire Grand Prix weekend, artistes led by rock band Travis, Chaka Khan, Backstreet Boys and Youssou N’Dour will add even more excitement. Large-scale theatre acts and top DJs will further ensure a weekend to remember.

“We were delighted to be given so many accolades and compliments after the inaugural running of the race in 2008, but we always knew we would have to make this year’s event even bigger and better” says Singapore GP Deputy Chairman Colin Syn. “With our mixture of enhanced on-track action and the ultimate music event, we are creating a must-go party for race ticketholders.”

Fine tuning of the Marina Bay Street Circuit is also set to provide more on-track action. Key corners including Turn 1 and Turn 14, at the end of the Esplanade Bridge, are being reprofiled and tightened to increase the potential for overtaking moves. In addition the chassis developments for the 2009 season, including the use of slick tyres and the possible use of KERS ‘power boost’ technology by Ferrari and McLaren, may lead to
    even more spectacular racing.

Much of the post-race action for fans will, as last year be centred in the heart of the circuit. After a buzzing post-race party last year at the Padang, the top nightspot Zouk returns this time to the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre to present top deejays Carl Cox, the godfather of UK techno, and progressive tech-house’ stalwart John Digweed.
There will also be additional roving artistes to tease the spectators. Melbourne-based Strange Fruit will take the circuit park entertainment to another level, literally. Perched atop 4-metre high flexible poles, the troupe delivers a sublime performance, bending and swaying in the air, fusing theatre, dance and circus acts.

Cie des Quidams’ Herbert’s Dream will also woo spectators with an enchanting performance which has bewitched audiences from Bangkok to Brusells since 1997. The French artistes, draped in white cloth, will perform on stilts to bewitching music and slowly transform to illuminated characters, set against the Singapore night-time sky
All of the artistes will be performing at various stages around the Circuit Park. Travis will perform at Zone 4 at the Padang, while the Backstreet Boys will be playing a short acoustic set on 26 September (Saturday) in Zone 1, close to the startline.

The Backstreet Boys will perform a full length set on 27 September (Sunday) at the Padang stage after the race. Chaka Khan is scheduled to perform in Zone 1 at the Paddock Club Lifestyle stage and Zone 1 stage on 27 September (Sunday) only.

“When we created the Singapore Grand Prix, one of our main priorities from the start was to maximize on the entertainment and value for money for racegoers” says Colin Syn. “We want this to be much more than just another motor race in which nothing else comes even close to. With something for everyone, the 2009 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX will truly be a memorable weekend like no other event on the calendar.”

TWENTY NINE REASONS TO BOOK YOUR HOTEL STAY EARLY FOR THE 2009 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX

TWENTY NINE REASONS TO BOOK YOUR HOTEL STAY EARLY FOR THE 2009 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX

Hotels offer peace of mind with Best Rate Guarantee scheme

Singapore GP is partnering twenty nine hotels to offer a greater degree of assurance through a Best Rate Guarantee system for visitors who are booking hotel rooms during the 2009 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX.

The Best Rate Guarantee (BRG) scheme is a voluntary arrangement that promises to extend any last minute lower price deals to “early bird” customers. Under this scheme, guests who choose to book early with participating hotels will not lose out should there be any last minute room price drops during the race weekend (25-27 September). Customers who book now with participating hotels will be rewarded with the same discounts enjoyed by those who book at the last minute, should such discounts materialise.

The initiative is a result of feedback from corporate and general ticket-holders of the inaugural FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX last year.

Elaborating on the scheme, Mr Teo Hock Seng, Chairman of Singapore GP, said that the BRG is a “win-win” solution for participating hotels and their customers, with more hotels expected to join the scheme in the coming weeks.

“Hotels will be able to manage their inventory better with early confirmations, while visitors who want to come here to watch the race will also have a greater degree of confidence, instead of having to wait and see whether there will be any last minute price deals.”

“Across the board this year, hotels in Singapore are already offering room rates that are 30-50% lower than during last year’s inaugural FORMULA ONE race. This Best Rate Guarantee further demonstrates the commitment by Singapore hotels to provide spectators and visitors with even greater value-for-money during the race period this September, and we look forward to more hotels joining the scheme,” said Ms Caroline Leong, Director, Hospitality Business, Singapore Tourism Board (STB).

As the specific terms and conditions differ from each hotel, visitors are invited to check directly with the 29 participating hotels, which range from economy to upper tier properties.

Information on the participating hotels as well as the 2009 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX can be found at www.singaporegp.sg. The full list of hotels can also be found on the www.visitsingapore.com/sgpseason/hotel_rates.html hosted by the STB.

Additional line-up brings total number of performers for the race weekend to over 200. Eight early-bird categories now sold out.

Building upon the recent unveiling of the first wave of circuit park entertainment, race promoter Singapore GP Pte Ltd (SGP) is bringing in alternative rock band Travis. They join the likes of Chaka Khan, Ozomatli, Backstreet Boys and Youssou N’Dour alongside large-scale theatre acts and top DJs to further enhance the overall spectator experience at the 2009 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX.

Hailing from Glasgow, Scotland, Travis consists of Fran Healy (lead vocals), Dougie Payne (bass guitar), Andy Dunlop (lead guitar) and Neil Primrose (drums). Travis will be performing their hits which include “Closer”, “Sing”, “Why Does It Always Rain on Me” and songs from their latest album, Ode to J. Smith.

Spectators will also be treated to what is touted to be the must-go party for race ticketholders. After a successful party last year at the Padang, Zouk returns this time to the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre to present top deejays Carl Cox, the godfather of UK techno, and progressive tech-house’ stalwart John Digweed.

Cie des Quidams’ Herbert’s Dream will also woo spectators with an enchanting performance which has bewitched audiences from Bangkok to Bruxelles since 1997. The French artistes, draped in white cloth, will perform on stilts to bewitching music and slowly transform to illuminated characters.

All of the artistes will be performing at various stages around the Circuit Park. Travis is slated to perform at Zone 4 at the Padang, while the Backstreet Boys will be playing a short acoustic set on 26 September (Saturday) in Zone 1. The Backstreet Boys will perform a full length set on 27 September (Sunday) at the Padang stage after the race. Chaka Khan is scheduled to perform in Zone 1 at the Paddock Club Lifestyle stage and Zone 1 stage on 27 September (Sunday) only. The full schedule* of performances and artistes will be available on the official website, www.singaporegp.sg (*all subject to change).

    Early Bird Tickets Selling Fast

Since the unveiling of the first wave of circuit park entertainment two weeks ago, ticket sales have been proceeding steadily. Early Bird tickets for Turn 2, Bay and Connaught Grandstands are now fully sold, which effectively means that eight categories of Early Bird tickets are no longer available. The remaining 50% of the inventory for each of these categories will now be sold at the regular price. Soon to join the “sold out” category are the Early Bird tickets for the Stamford and Padang grandstands.

Currently, the lowest entry price to the race remains at S$38 (for the Friday walkabout), while the lowest price for a three-day entry is at S$188 (three-day walkabout). Even the lowest priced tickets will enable spectators to see the Backstreet Boys and Youssou N’Dour perform, while those wishing to enjoy Chaka Khan would need to get a seat in Zone 1 (prices start from S$988 for Turn 3 grandstand).
